  • Hey guys,

Check out Fordham University’s very own fashion magazine! I swear you won’t regret it ;) I mean, it isn’t a pitch, but I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t have any work in there either haha ;P

    Enjoy!

  • First - Drugstore - Favorites

Alright! So, you’re going to have to forgive me because I think this is probably the first blog post that actually has any type of substance in it. It’s pretty difficult to get around to writing things on here. But, here we go.

As of late, I’ve been binge watching beauty videos on YouTube trying to get a feel for trying on different types of lipsticks, mascaras, and eyeliners, because those are really the only types of makeup-related items I actually use. I’ve been trying to gather as much insight as I can on a number of different products (namely drugstore products because hello, broke college student here) so that I can get a feel for how they could work on me. I’ll save the pointless blathering and just talk about two products I’ve tried out.

Let’s start with lip products! Well technically, my first remotely out-of-the-ordinary lip product (singular) besides incredibly sheer lip glosses and lipsticks for middle to high school aged girls, and only appropriate for me by permission from my dearest mother.
The first kind of lipstick that I’ve always wanted to try was a nice matte lipstick. My mom insisted that I always go for sheer colors that make it look like I have nothing on — well, while that may have worked nicely for me before, I do want to have some type of color on my lips some days. And sometimes, I want to go a little bit bolder than I usually do. Hence me trying this product that I’ll probably wear the life out of, even by talking about it, since so many people have praised it: the soft matte lip cream by Nyx!

But this is in the shade Milan. Now, it looks like a really peachy type of pink on the tube, but when you take out the doe-foot applicator and apply it on your lips, it looks like a bright, bright pink. Not what I was expecting, but completely fine for me since it was out of my comfort zone anyway! Hooray! This product is absolutely wonderful, in my humble opinion. It does get drying if you put it on straight with nothing else underneath it, but that’s definitely an easy fix. Just swipe some lip balm or some Vaseline (definitely a holy grail of life) on your lips before applying and it will last you forever and never feel dry or cracked. It’s also definitely a really buildable product, and you can go from a nice pop of pink to a really bold hot pink statement lip. Two thumbs up for this one, definitely, and it’s only like $6.00 or something, so that’s also a plus in my book.

On to mascara!! Now, I’m one of those people who used to tag along with my mom on her shopping trips to Sephora and just indulge in the sample sized products she got along with her purchases. Needless to say, I’m older and a little bit on my own now, so I can’t rely on sample-sizes to get me through the year. I felt aimless trying on all different types of mascara from Too Faced’s Better Than Sex mascara, to Makeup Forever’s Smoky Extravagant mascara, to even the heralded They’re Real! mascara by Benefit. While they all gave me such a nice look, they never lasted or held up as wonderfully as I was expecting them to. After countless sample mascaras, I had had enough. I needed to find something that could potentially be a holy grail mascara for me. And the hype around YouTube is definitely so real. Behold: Maybelline’s the Rocket Volume Express (waterproof).

Wow. This mascara is just wow. Not only is it the blackest of black, but it holds curl incredibly well, it doesn’t flake, it lasts for decades, and it’s great for bottom lashes. I could never wear mascara on my bottom lashes because they would always smudge, but not with this bad boy. Now, I have really thin and sparse lashes, so mascara would always make them look funky anyway, but this actually lifts them up and makes them look perked and full. I give this a solid 10/10, and it definitely lives up to the hype it’s got surrounding it on the interwebs.

So, that’s basically all I have for today — I promise I’ll be writing more this coming year. And, since I just got back from Pennsylvania for vacation (because who doesn’t love visiting the Amish people), and went on a crazy shopping trip alongside my incredibly fashionable mother, I’ll be posting up a fashion haul as well. Get excited everyone. Get very excited.
